Rejoice! It looks like the Alaska Junction in West Seattle is about to enjoy a brand-new Irish Pub, courtesy of Jenna and Paddy O’Brien! Please welcome A Terrible Beauty to the growing list of independent local businesses that make West Seattle such a wonderful and unique place to live. Annnnnd….wait for it…..they plan to have 30 beers(!) on tap! Such news makes my heart leap and my liver duck and cover.
Bucking the unfortunate recent trend of local business closure in, and around, the Alaska Junction, the O’brien’s are bringing their successful “franchise” (this is the second iteration of Terrible Beauty, the first being in Renton) to the old Table 35 space at the corner of California and Edmunds. The West Seattle Blog had a great little write-up about them recently. Here’s a clip:
“They plan to have 30 beers on tap and will be doing in-house baking and cooking just like at their original location. The menu will be the same as the original pub, and A Terrible Beauty will be family-friendly in West Seattle as well. The outside will have a custom stone facing to give it that pub look.”
For the moment, the opening date is set for May 1st, which coincides rather nicely with my May 7th birthday. It doesn’t hurt that their location is just about exactly halfway between my office and my home, so I think it’s safe to say that mine will become a familiar face. I just hope they have a pool table!
